Robert Alan Owens Jr.

U.S. Veteran

Robert “Dear” Alan Owens Jr., 56 of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012. He was born on March 4, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana to Robert Owens Sr. and Minnie Owens.

 

Robert was a life long resident of South Bend, Indiana. He  graduated from John Adams High School in 1975. Robert also attended Ball State University and later Indiana University South Bend where he received his Associates Degree in general studies. He served in the Armed Forces and was honorably discharged.

 

He was an avid runner, along with participating and volunteering in many races across the South Bend and Mishawaka area.  His most recent jobs included working for Curtis Products and the South Bend Tribune. Robert also enjoyed following the      Chicago Bears football team.  Robert will always be remembered by his family as a “gentle soul.”

 

Robert is survived by his father, Robert (Janice) Owens Sr.; seven brothers: Keith Owens, Dennis Moody, Tony (Joyce) Gary all off South Bend, Indiana, Martin (Dione) Owens of Texas, Christian (Bridget) Owens of Chicago, Illinois, Israel (Tuba) Owens PhD, of New Mexico and Elijah (Joy) Owens MD, of South Carolina; four sisters: Sheila (Al) Ligon, Lisa (James) Herron, Julie Owens all of South Bend, Indiana and Lovie (Ted) Verstraete of Alabama; a special friend, Earnest Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Owens; and a sister, Linda Farmer.

 

Funeral services for Robert Alan Owens Jr. will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012, in Clark-O’Neal Funeral Home Inc., 2702 Lincoln Way West. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and services at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Mishawaka Fairview Cemetery.
